Summary/Abstract: The term “private archives” is a legal category, defined by the current (and in a certain way and prior) archival and other regulations. These types of materials are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, increasingly, as a result of changes in social relations caused by erosion of socialism in 1990. and later during the entire transition process that is still ongoing. This kind of material are archivists considerably less attention than is the case with public archives, which is understandable as it relates to the slow transition of ownership and role in society by inertia socialist practices of a public (state) archives. Because of all this, and a number of other circumstances, the author of this article deals with some of the most important issues of theoretical and pragmatic nature to worry about private archives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is becoming increasingly important. It is primarily about the archives that all archival regulations is treated as a private (including the structure of religious communities), as well as huge amounts of material that occurs increasingly intense privatization of existing significant economic and other holders of archives, and the establishment of private companies to carry out various activities , which until recently was inconceivable and impossible.
