Documents of the Bulgarian Kings in the 13th and 14th Centuries

Summary/Abstract: The specific reason for writing the article is a recent publication of the documents issued by the Bulgarian kings in Bulgarian in the 13th and 14th centuries (A.Daskalova and M. Rajkova, 2005). A detailed assessment of the book reveals serious shortcomings in the transcription of the texts, the rules governing their publication, the description of the character and the designation of the documents, the glossary. At the same time the article discusses fundamental problems of diplomatics in so far as Bulgarian mediaeval documents are concerned: text preparation, terminology, principles governing the publishing of these documents, and commentary.
