Summary/Abstract: One of the key trends of the modern historiography dealing with the 19th century is a research of municipal administration. Nevertheless, apart from the society activities or the possibility to work on one’s own in the economic field (to conduct business), this is considered to be one of the pillars of modern civil society. In the case of the research of municipal administration, a wide range of topics is analysed (for instance a socio-professional structure of municipal councils and their influence on a development of the given area), including matters related to municipal elections. The author of the presented study aims just at this factor and attempts to outline the whole picture – within the framework of preserved archival and printed sources – of the course of municipal elections in Šternberk during more than six decades. This topic has been completely overlooked in regional historiography until now which might be caused not only by the destructing or losing necessary archives (especially during the World War II) but also by a lack of interest of researchers. Thus, the presented study reflects the matter of municipal elections in Šternberk in years 1850–1914 and puts it into broader context of the development of the election issue at a municipal level.
