Summary/Abstract: The article represents a probe into problems of the exile life. The concrete example of Czechoslovak exiles in Australia, where they left after the beginning of the Communist regime in February 1948, shows activities of their societies. It thoroughly describes differences of opinion, typical for exile, and mutual, often personal conflicts, which crippled social and cultural work itself. The Council of Free Czechoslovakia as a top body of the world Czechoslovak exile corresponded with exile societies. It is just the Council, in which all the mutual relations and problems of the whole exile movement are visible. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the mutual contacts and outline various types of problems or tasks that the Australian exile presented or dealt with representatives of the Council. A person, who communicated most frequently with exiles in Australia, was the chairman of the social committee of the Council of Free Czechoslovakia, Juraj Slávik.
