Summary/Abstract: Economic crises in 1991–1992 and 1997–1998 and particularly in 2008 provoked economists and politicians to reflection about the role of state in economy. They more often undermine faith in liberal market. Some of the economists advocate for state interventionism. Others claim that state could spoil the economy because „it is politics that rules” not economic knowledge. Economic crises, globalization of world economy and environmental hazards made French scientific milieu more interested in problems of modern liberalism in first decade of XXI century. Jean Claude Micheà presented interesting point of view on this issue. According to him modern liberalism should be one combining economic liberalism with achievements of culture, history and religion. Nevertheless economic liberalism should be the central point. The opposite point of view is presented by professors of economics Morice Niveau and Yves Crozet. They criticize free market as socially unjust. Other French authors as Andre Gauthier and Odile Castel are very critical of liberal globalization. Yves Carsalade is supporter of state interventionism. Philippe Norel appoints free market as a main factor of economic development.
