Stylistic Devices in the 17th Century Damascenes and the Beginning of the Bulgarian Literary Language

Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the stylistic devices in the Bulgarian 17 century prose. She aims at distingnishing the New Bulgarian poetic features among the traditional Byzantine and Old Bulgarian usage. The investigation leads to the conclusion that in the language of the first New Bulgarian texts one discoveres the work of talented unknown translaters, who combined traditional and folklore poetic stylistic devices with individual style of translation, thus making some of the texts pieces of poetry in prose.
