Financial crisis as a threat for bank deposits

Summary/Abstract: Financial crisis 2007-2008 proved high instability existing in the financial system of the world economy, including deposits security. International credit is especially unstable and even in spite of the fact it is subject to regulatory laws, they do not follow the globalization trend of financial markets. Each financial crisis is preceded by an uncontrollable loan expansion with roots in overheated consumption. On the other hand, each investor placing his or her cash on bank accounts bears the risk of bank insolvency. Despite introduction of international procedures regarding deposits safety - an average depositor has limited withdrawal possibilities from large banks to secure own position. Cyprus became a classical case of such a situation where confiscation of private funds is without compare or precedent in any similar situation.
