Summary/Abstract: The authors put forward a hypothesis which allows them to read the inscription on the Pliska rosette. They assume that the inscription is dedicatory and that it is written in Proto-Bulgarian. The writing is mixed: it contains Greek and Slavonic Letters and specific graphemes (the majority of them of Altaic origin). The inscription could be read as: жбанъ еалѣ су ѣѱ / IYI. The proposed translation is: The shepherd of the state (people) - marshal of the army (water) / God bless him? The Inscription dates from the end of the ninth or the very beginning of the tenth century.
