Summary/Abstract: The Matrix” trilogy and “Avatar” resort to the intricacies of postmodern utopianism to render two hypostases of mankind. However different in their respective approach, one having a technological dystopia as the basis of its narrative structure, and the other constructing an image of ecological utopia, the two cinematic works both lean, conceptually, on the idea of ecological suicide. The following is an analysis of the utopian build of each one, stressing upon their individual plot development and the complex interplay between humanity, nature and technology.
