Critical Sociology: Limits of Developement. Attempting an Alternative Explanation

Summary/Abstract: Do zrozumienia stanu socjologii krytycznej konieczna jest rekonstrukcjapola socjologicznego, w którym jest ona wytwarzana, orazjej relacji z socjologią akademicką, praktyczną i publiczną. W artykuleprzedstawiona jest alternatywna wobec zaproponowanej przez T. Warczokai T. Zaryckiego rekonstrukcja pola socjologicznego w Polsce,a ich wystąpienie interpretowane jest jako działanie strategicznychaktorów. Ograniczenia socjologii krytycznej upatrywane są w słabościachsocjologii akademickiej, która – często korzystając z gatunkueseju – wiedzę o polskim społeczeństwie przedstawia w sposób silnieudramatyzowany. In order to understand how matters currently stand in critical sociology,the field of sociology, in which this critical discourse is produced, as wellas its relations to professional, policy and public sociologies should be reconstructed.This article presents an alternative perspective to the one proposedby T. Warczok and T. Zarycki’s reconstruction of the field of sociologyin Poland, their paper being interpreted as an action by strategic actors.This paper traces the limitations of critical sociology to the weaknesses ofprofessional sociology, which often uses an essayistic genre and presentsthe knowledge on Polish society in a highly dramatized manner.
