The Old Bulgarian Translation Technique During the Early Era of Simeon. About Four(alleged) Patristic Translations by Constantine of Preslav

Summary/Abstract: Looking at the main issue of the continuity of the translation principles of Cyril and Methodius after 885, the article looks at the exact problem of the authorship of the Old Bulgarian translation of Piranesi by Ephrem Cirin, attributed to Constantine of Preslav. Five important Old Bulgarian translation writings are objects of analysis: the Piranesi of Ephrem Cirin, the Didactic Gospel, the Four Words Against the Arians of Athanasius of Alexandria, the Katechizi of Cyrus yl Jerusalem and the Ladder of John Sinai. As a result of this comparison of different translation techniques, it turns out that exactly the early translations of the Plisko-Preslav era show a strengthened formal ‘greekification’, while the later bigger works of Preslav Literary School are turning to the more free Cyrilo-Methodievic principles.
