The 17th Century Damascenes and the Beginnings of the Bulgarian literary language

Summary/Abstract: The article criticizes the conception of the book „История на българския книжовен език“. София, 1989. The author argues that the history of the Modern Bulgarian literary language remains incomplete if the language of the 17th century damascenes is not taken into consideration. The paper includes orthographic and linguistic (mostly lexical) data from 17th century manuscripts supporting her thesis.
