Summary/Abstract: The article summarises the current knowledge of the family history of Carl Robert Jakobson (1841-1882), who was one of the leading figures of the Estonian National Awekening. Several errors occurring in earlier sources have been corrected. Carl Robert's father Adam Torb (later: Jakobson) (1817-1857) was an illegitimate child, whose mother Ann came from Haanja, Rõuge parish. Carl Robert's mother Elise Mikhailov (1816-1876) was an ethnic Latvian from Valga. In 1846 the family moved to Torma parish, where Adam worked as parish clerk and schoolmaster for his remaining eleven years. Later, Carl Robert Jakobson continued in his father's office.
