Summary/Abstract: The ancient Stoics considered themselves as the people's counselors in issues related to whatever remainsin accordance with their nature. They provided advice on how to deal with everyday matters. Today,some philosophers continue this ancient tradition as advisors or trainers in personal development. Arethey counselors in the same sense that the Stoics were? This question will be the keynote of the considerationsmade in this presentation. The basic issue will be the search of the right formula, which coulddescribe the contemporary philosophical counseling (spiritual guidance) in situations when this rolecannot be a simple reproduction of the ancient models.
