Summary/Abstract: A dozen years ago, Polish television was practically relied on domestic production. The original auditions, which were deep-rooted in the national culture, have filled up the broadcasting content. The turning point for Polish audio-visual production ensued in 1992, when first national adaptations of worldwide TV formats (mainly TV quiz shows like Wheel of Fortune or Family Feud) came up in Polish Television. Nowadays, TV formats have dominated the schedules of public and commercial media, especially in the prime time. Although the licence agreements forbid to make changes in bought foreign formats, Polish authors try to adjust the TV formats to domestic conditions. The presented article was aimed at answering the question how Polish authors modify the auditions based on foreign licences to save national cultural identity.
