Summary/Abstract: The author is trying to explain some particularities in one of the bestknown phonetic processes – the epenthesis of jers at the end of the word. The point is that the epenthesis of the jers is only the final and visible result of two different types of changes. While the epenthesis jer between a noise consonant and a sonorant could be considered as part of the development of sonantic vowels after the loss of weak jers, the epenthetic jer between two noise consonants occurs for other reasons. The article shows the link between this phenomenon and some verbal derivational models which arc typical of Bulgarian.
