Summary/Abstract: This paper seeks to 1) outline the typical characteristics of the development of Bulgarian schlager in the 1930s; 2) draw attention to prominent figures working in this genre such as Milyo Basan, Joseph Tsankov, Asparouch Leshnikov, Albert Pincas, etc.; 3) deal with typical of the age music examples. The study also sheds light on the way in which these music events have reflected on the shaping of Bulgarian popular music in a broader historical context.
