Composition of the Church Slavonic Prayer to the Holy Trinity in the Light of the Source

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to clarify the textological dependence of the Prayer to the Holy Trinity (Trin) on other sources. Two areas are taken in consideration: Latin West represented by Old Church Slavonic (OCS) translations of Latin prayers, i. e. Prayer of Saint Gregory and Prayer of Confession of Sins, both conserved in Jaroslavl’ sbornik dating to 14th century, and Byzantine East with its liturgical and ascetical texts. We are carried to conclude that the author of Trin synthetised the heritage of East and West in this manuscript. Prayers of the Western provenance are quoted in their OCS translation, and one part of Trin contains some quotations from the Liturgy of Saint Basil and from Byzantine funeral prayers. Present biblical quotations are drown on the OCS translation of the Bible. There are some nuances which make us think that Trin was composed in some monastic centre. If we accept the Czech origin of Trin, and its datation at the end of 11th century, the textological analysis elucidates the spiritual character of the Czech Christianity in this period.
