Summary/Abstract: The article studies basic trends in the critical reception of Ivo Andrić’s works as well as it updates ideas from past and modern readings and reviews the mechanisms of Andrić’s popularity in Bulgaria. The comparative analysis is, first and foremost, focused on the Bulgarian literary and cultural milieu, because, obviously, the critics accept Andrić as a “familiar” author. This is due to his discourse which flows effortlessly into the active for the Bulgarian cultural awareness interpretation.
