Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to build a regional growth model which rules out Solow’s assumption of closed economies and accounts for agglomeration economies and also production factor mobility. The model provides more detailed and life-like predictions on regional growth determinants, than the neoclassical model does. An application of this model to the study of regional growth in Hungary over the period 1993–2012 indicates that the initial size of urbanization, population growth and structural changes in the employment of local economies contribute to long-term growth. The hypothesis of conditional convergence has also been verified. The estimated convergence rate exceeds the national cross-sectional values of 2%, found in many studies. The results seem to be robust when based on the changes of the model specification.
