Summary/Abstract: The article presents the procedure of preparation of the Polish version of the Measure of Place Attachment by D. Williams and J. Vaske (2003). Items of the original scale were translated into Polish by a team of geographers and psychologists, working in the field of place attachment and proficient in English. The Polish version of the Measure of Place Attachment was administered to a group of 620 persons (291 males and 329 females), residing in places of different size, and information on socio demographic, social and physical variables, known to be associated with place attachment (i.e. age, gender, education, length of residence, number of residence moves, family rootedness, sense of safety, ownership of dwelling, type of building), were collected. The two-factorial structure of the Place Attachment Scale (Place identity and Place Dependence) was confirmed. Both subscales have high reliability, α ≥ 0,88, and the general score of the scale is also reliable, α = 0,95. Correlations between socio demographic, social and physical variables, place identity and place dependence confirmed the theoretical validity of the Polish adaptation of the scale.
