Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the naming and renaming in Prague subway. First Prague metro line was opened in 1974 and since that date the system of underground railway is being expanded. The last extension was in 2015, when four new stations were opened. Naming and renaming of metro stations are under the influence of extra-linguistic factors (e. g. political situation or ideology). The text discusses also the undesirable homonymy in naming of urban spaces. Sometimes we can see situation, when the metro station has the same name as some above-ground object, which is very distant. In this case the localizing designation is deceptive and divorced from the topographic reality.
