Some remarks about the construction of an indicator of the international competitiveness of the agri-food sector

Summary/Abstract: The notion of the international competitiveness is hard to define due to its both multidimensional and dynamic nature. Problems with placing this issue within the theory of economics cause difficulties with effectiveness of measurement of that problem. The study is aiming to evaluate three concepts of quantification of the abstract phenomenon of the international competitiveness of EU agri-food sectors. The most exhaustive concept of competitive position quantification is synthetic measure. Exports of agri-food products appear to express the synthetic measure scores better that net exports do.
