Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is to present the issues of culture of professionalism and its application to human resource management. The challenges to human resource management, presented in the article, show the changes of value systems which in turn lead to changes of psychological contract and weakening the sense of loyalty to the organization. The change of psychological contract consists in replacing the relational type of contract by transactional and, in the case of professionals, the loyalty toward organizations by the identifications with professional competencies. The Engagement Management, proposed by Polish authors, links with a culture of professionalism but culture of professionalism entails strong feeling of work autonomy and loyalty to professional group. Adopting the culture of professionalism to management of organizations employing other employees than professionals, entails the danger of manipulation.
