Summary/Abstract: The historian Mihai Dim. Sturdza, who recently celebrated the respectable age of 80 years, is Mihail Sturdza’s great grandson, prince of Moldavia (1834-1849). He was born on the 17th of September 1934, in Bucharest, as the son of Dimitrie M. Sturdza (1909-1938) and Ileana Manu (1915-2006). In December 1963, Mr. Mihai Dim. Sturdza left Romania and settled in France. In 1969, he married Isabelle Anne Marie, the daughter of marquis Pierre-Adalbert Frotier de Bagneux. In France, Mr. Sturdza worked for the Department of Cultural and Scientific Exchanges within the French Ministry of State (1968-1985). Between 1968 and 1978, he was the official Romanian interpreter of two French presidents: General Charles de Gaulle and Valéry Giscard d’Estang. In 1971, he became a diplomat of the Institute of Political Sciences of Paris. Between 1986 and 1995, he was a political editor at the Romanian Department within the Institute of Research of the radio station ”Europa Liberă”. The first version of this interview was made in 2004 in Bucharest and revised in 2015 by Mihai Dim. Sturdza for publication. The present article represents the first part of the interview; the complete interview will be published next year.
