Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to determine the fraction size of monoparental families at risk of poverty. The article defines the term of an incomplete family and then the level and structure of poor, monoparental families in the European Union. The data source is the Eurostat statistics. Empirical materials contained in the article come from sub-studies of EU-SILC. They constitute a reference point for comparing the statistics on the distribution of incomes and social integration in the European Union. Particular attention has been paid that incomes in the new EU countries are nearly four times lower than in the “old” EU, and thereby the level of hazard of poverty in the NMS12 countries is relatively higher than in the EU15, or in the Eurozone.
