Summary/Abstract: In the article are presented the newly discovered original (not translated) Old Bulgarian hymnographic works in Slavonic hand-written octoechoses from the 12th to the 14th с. Emphasis is laid on the contribution of Clement of Ohrid whose author’s share in the Octoechos includes two cycles of thanksgiving canons and stihera for the eight modes in honour of John the Baptist, designed for the daily service on Thuesday and in honour of the Apostles Peter and Paul, correspondingly for Thursday, and a cycle of canons for the St. Trinity for Saturday vespers. In all the three cycles in accordance with the traditions of Byzantine hymn-writing, the poet left his name in acrostics formed by the first letters of the troparia in the odes of the canons – климента (8th and 9th odes of the canon for John the Baptist, 1st mode, and of the canon for Peter and Paul, 8th mode) and клим (9th ode for Peter and Paul, 6th mode, and for the St. Trinity, 8th mode). Besides these works to the Old Bulgarian repertory belongs also an anonymous cycle of canons for the St. Trinity, the not-translated origin of which is supported by the presence of a phrasal acrostic, formed by the first letters of the troparia in the canon for the 8th mode: тѧ молж прилежно бес прѣстани. The newly discovered Old Bulgarian hymnographic works are examined in view of a number of problems of a philological and liturgical character and as a basis of arguments for solving the questions discussed since long in science.
