Summary/Abstract: The present article will approach three of the writings of the Welsh artist and writer Brenda Chamberlain (1912-1971): Tide-Race, The Water Castle and A Rope of Vines, all of auto-biographical character, accompanied by some of her paintings. Known to have spent several years on Enlli (Bardsey Island, West of Wales), and later on the Greek island Hydra, Brenda Chamberlain lived and created under the influence of the two islands and their inhabitants and environment. Our aim here is to see how the influence of the islands shaped her creative spirit and her art and how, in the end, her suicidal act i.e. the way the artist dismissed her own body may have been marked by the specific status of Enlli island.
