Summary/Abstract: Despite the unquestionable diversities of various approaches in recent considerations of nation and nationalism, all of them are founded on the assumption that the mentioned phenomena are not naturally and intrinsically given, but that they are constructions of so called cultural practices. By combining the theses of B. Anderson, E. J. Hobsbawm, T. Ranger, A. D. Smith, G. Schöpflin, A. Assmann and others, the work on the corpus of manifestos of the national »revival« period reveals and interprets the discoursive strategies and concepts imployed in the articulation of the Croatian national identity. The research is focused on the analysis of the identification elements that can also be recognized in contemporary, both less and more popular, (self)identifications of the Croatian nation.
