Gaps in the benchmarking methodology of hospitals on the example of the Pomeranian Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: Hospitals are medical entities, which, due to a wide range of services and at the low level of funding, should pay special attention to the use of modern management tools, which can help to improve their efficiency and profitability. Benchmarking is an instrument which is well known and appreciated in the world, also in the health care market. In recent years, its popularity among medical entities in Poland has been increasing. The aim of the article is to identify gaps and mistakes in the benchmarking process in Pomeranian hospitals. Research method used the questionnaire. The results of studies have identified irregularities and inaccuracies which occurred in the process of benchmarking in hospitals, and helped to identify the conditions necessary for the proper application of benchamrking by hospitals.
