Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of the research of the motivation for motherhood in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the Department for Gynecology and Obstetrics, Clinical Center of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. The survey was conducted among 100 female respondents divided into two surveyed groups: the clinical group, made out of 50 female respondents that undergo the procedure of the in vitro fertilization at the Department for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Novi Sad, and the control group, made out of 50 pregnant women hospitalized at the Clinic for Childbirth. The following instruments were used: the questionnaire for collecting basic socio-demographic data, and Parenthood Motivation Scale. Three categories of motives for parenthood were identified in the research: motives for family continuity, motives for the nurturing and maternal care of the child and social pressure. The results are similar to the results of other authors. Strongest were the motives for nurturing and caring for the child and these motives were slightly stronger among women in the process of IVF. There is no difference in the intensity of the other two groups of motives. The research results are discussed in the context of contemporary research of parenthood motivation in different cultures.
