Summary/Abstract: The article examines the philological evidence in support of the fact that at least during the first two decades of the 10th century the Cyrillic alphabet was used simultaneously with the Glagolitic alphabet. It was in Glagolitic letters that some fundamental works of varions genres were originally written, such as: natural science works (e.g. Hexameron by John the Exarch), theological encyclopaedia (e.g. Symeonic Florilegium), collections of essays by the Holy priests, Old Testament biblical books with commentaries, historical works and calendar astronomical papers. The hypothesis that the historical announcement about прѣложение кънигъ dating from 893 concerning the substitution of Glagolitic letters for Cyrillic letters is refuted in this article.
