Summary/Abstract: In the 4th and 5th centuries Sunday was officially declared a feast day and become the principal organizational element of the calendar. The headings of the Sundays in the early Slavonic gospels were of two kinds: numerical and verbal. According to their position the Sundays were given serial numbers within the framework of the separate cycles and with them they were designed. In the Paschal cycle were registered two types of numeration: in the first type the enumeration began with Easter, and in the second - with the Sunday after Easter. The second type was in the process of disappearance. Only the Sundays of more essential importance in the organization of the calendar received a verbal heading: all the Sundays in the Paschal cycle, the first Sunday after Pentecost, the last four Sundays before Lent and the last Sunday of Lent. The titles of the Sundays in the early Slavonic gospels appeared in different variants.
