Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the situation in the field of human rights education in sec- ondary schools in the Republic of Serbia. The starting-point is an introduction of this education to the secondary-school level. Preconditions for it have been created by legislative amendments in the spirit of general democratization of the school system. A special attention has been paid to the introduction of contents in the field of human rights education into the education process via teaching the course in Civic Education. The current situation in this field has been assessed on the basis of authentic answers of 241 teachers of civic education, which were collected in the research carried out in 180 secondary schools in the territory of Serbia, at the beginning of 2008. The exer- cise of pupils’ right to free association and organization through work of the Pupils’ Parliament in secondary schools has also been analyzed as an index of respect for the children’s rights in everyday school life.
