Summary/Abstract: After a short recall of the poet’s principal stages of creation and their literary characteristics, “Henri Michaux, the strangeness in the language” analyzes the poem “Sunday in the Countryside”, extracted from the volume Plume (Feather). This poem is notable for the presence of incomprehensible words, non-existent in French or in any other known language. Poetical inventions of Henri Michaux, these words create a feeling of strangeness in the reader. In order to understand the sense of the poem, one wonders about the place they hold in the semiotic system of the text and about how they function poetically. According to the author’s hypothesis, the poem is the transcription of a phantasm. May this article be a humble homage to Henri Michaux (1899-1984) in this anniversary year 2014!
