Internal Reconstruction of the Textual History of the Banica Gospel

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the possibilities of reconstructing the textual history of the Middle Bulgarian Banica Gospel of the 13th century using the methods of internal reconstruction. Several types of distribution of the Preslav lexicon (103 lexemes, more than 2 000 applications) in this manuscript were establishes and examined. Comparative analysis of these makes it possible to reconstruct the following stages in the textual history of the Banica Gospel: (1) insertion of the fragment John 12:10–21:25 taken from a tetraevangelion containing the text revised in Preslav; (2) existence of this compilation for some time; (3) addition of the Matthew Gospel taken from an archaic source.
