Object-Oriented Exception Handling: Implications for Education

Summary/Abstract: Although the mechanism for exclusive situations and error handling is not fundamental for the paradigm, it is a part of any modern object-oriented language. Its knowledge and proper use helps the developers to build up reliable and protected program systems. Thus this topic should undoubtedly find place in the syllabus in object-oriented programming (OOP). This report discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches for error and exception handling applied to an object-oriented program, the necessary notions for the OOP course and some particular recommendations that could improve learning OOP are given.
