Summary/Abstract: Eugen Ionesco's works reflect the existence caught between "Α and Ω". Nothing immutable, nothing redundant and nothing permanent but constant appearance. What is Ionesco trying to overcome? The empty space. The ontological abyss is felt as an acute sense of alienation which leads to inadequacy. The absurd arises through the lenses of an aesthetic ontology. In the background of a crisis, instability and perpetual change of forces man becomes disoriented and anguished. The heroes of the modern farce behave discontinuously expressing reification, mental and verbal clichés. In a chaotic world generated by an acute lack of meaning, in the absence of an axis mundi, without the promise of the Paradise the modern individual must face the absence. Hence the need to return to the myth. But is that enough in order to deal with Ŗthe twilight of the Idolsŗ?
