Summary/Abstract: The paper is part of a larger research project tracing the use of humour in 20th century drama, particularly in the western dramatic canon, as defined by Harold Bloom. We focus here on the use of humor in the avant-garde, particularly in Dadaism, Futurism and Surrealism, identifying the particularity of comic use and humour for each of them, as well as their intersections within the larger cultural movement that is the avant-garde.
