Summary/Abstract: The paper bellow is concerned with the study of the amplitude and the limits of a historical phenomenon – the fortification of the borders of the Arpadian Kingdom. The paper focuses on the bearers of this phenomenon in 12th Century Transylvania, namely on the Szekelys and the way this phenomenon is reflected in archaeological discoveries. Besides older discoveries, recent works (2012-2013) on the Orăştie - Sibiu highway have led to the unveiling of two 12th Century settlements in Miercurea Sibiului area which were considered here. The paper is intended to be a short presentation of the ample discoveries made at Miercurea Băi - Cunţa (MS I) and Apoldu de Jos (MS V). It also considers the similarities of the two settlements and the way they connect with other discoveries of the same time.
