Summary/Abstract: Over the last decade, the crime rate among young peoplehas been rising, which may be caused by the growing dysfunctionalityof the family. The aim of this work is to showthe range of juvenile crime in recent years and the way inwhich the dysfunctionality of the family influences this phenomenon. To analyze the phenomenon of juvenile crime, the statistics of the Regional Police Headquarters in Opole inyears 1999–2012 have been used. The analysis of the statisticshas shown that over these years, the crime rate amongyoung people has been rising and in 2012 it reaches 8.4% ofall crimes. It is becoming apparent that the dysfunctionalityof modern family influences the development of crimeamong young people. Modern dysfunctionality is not understoodmerely as orphanhood or half-orphanhood but moreas a deep crisis of educational family values. What has beendisturbed is the structure of families without considering itjust at the level of parents’ physical presence at home but atthe level of bonds, goals, norms which family should bringwhile shaping a young person, citizen and which it currentlydevelops.
