MAPS AND PLANS OF SARAJEVO AT THE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE OF SARAJEVO

Summary/Abstract: The importance of the Collection of Mas and Plans possessed by the Historical Archive Sarajevo is manifold, especially from the point of view of turbulent historical overthrows which have been happening in this area for centuries. The town had been changing, even annually, depending on the conquerors that had been coming to the area. Therefore, some of 537 maps and plans possessed by the Historical Archive Sarajevo describe chronologically and thematically the enlargement and development of Sarajevo through the long history of its existence. The Collection also represents a proof of modern development of cartography and printing techniques. It is difficult to find such comprehensive collections of maps and plans of Sarajevo at any other place. Most of the maps and plans possessed by the Historical Archive Sarajevo are real rarities, and as such have big historical value.
