Notes on the Vita of Cyril and Methodius

Summary/Abstract: The Vita of Cyril and Methodius was published in a learned journal for the first time 170 years ago but it still posses many questions for the scholars. This paper considers some of the controversial places in the text. An attempt is made to see this Vita in the light of early Old-Bulgarian Literature of the 9th and 10th c. A possible literary pattern is distinguished, and other texts of the same period are shown to have connections with the Vita of Cyril and Methodius in their conception, form and dissemanation.
