Summary/Abstract: Within the contect of the wide range of problems covered by the biographical studies, this paper brings forward as problems some specificities of the work with the biograpical narrative in the frameworks of ethnology, while studying community identity. The emphasis is on the role of that narrative for the structuring, preservation and understanding of the various cultures, and for implementing the intercultural dialogue in everyday life, more specifically, the dialogue between “researcher” and “respondent”. Within the frameworks of ethnographic field research, some opportunities stand out of the gatekeeper approach, employed for the observation and investigation of the existence of the biographical in the daily practices and experience, as well as in its use in studying the functioning of memory and identity within their mutual interrelation in everyday life. The questions raised and the conclusions drawn have been the result of my field work in the village of Dragomirovo, Svishtov Municipality, Veliko Tarnovo District in 2002, which was aimed at studying the group of Banat Bulgarian Catholics in Bulgaria.
