Summary/Abstract: The most of the theories and researches presented in the article – despite of the fact they were developing during: a students’ revolt, a difficult situation of graduates in a labor market, disappointment to educational institutions (e.g. universities) – show a positive influence of an academic environment on students. The positive effects of studies are considered in the dimension of an individual and social life, in personal, cognitive and moral development of the student. In connection with legitimate concerns of pedagogues about possible negative effects of mass, commercialized and devoid of a humanistic context higher education, it is paid in the paper an attention on a large developmental potential of the student and on environmental conditions that may reduce the effects of the “bad” impact. An importance of the student’s activity in the academic life and the skill of creating own strategies that can help to cope with the studies and may also protect from negligence of the higher education is also emphasized .
