„Are you Mrs. Maria? Do you have children?” – Polite or Rude? Two Exemplary Analyses from the Domain of Romanian – German Intercultural Communication in Professional Context

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to highlight several etiquette differences regarding politeness in the Romanian-German intercultural communication, starting from two exemplary analyses. The analyses are based on Goffman’s concept of face and on the theory of cultural standards. Following the analyses, recommendations are formulated for the improvement of the Romanian-German intercultural communication in professional contexts.
