Summary/Abstract: Ireland, historically known as a country of emigration, has become a popular destination State for immigrants since the early nineties. Ireland’s economic boom and rapid economic growth have created a high demand for labour and increased the number of immigrating workers. This article covers the structure of immigration to Ireland after the enlargement of the European Union in May 2004 and January 2007. It also illustrates the main determinants of high inflow of immigrants and its classification by sex, age, nationality and economic sector, they were employed in. It concludes with consideration of macroeconomic and social effects of the immigration to Ireland.
