Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the experimental and innovative aspect of the Lithuanian ballet performances suggested by set designers. The material presented in the article begins with the examples of the “Ballets Russes” visual ideas imported to Lithuania together with some Russian ballet dancers and choreographers in the fourth decade of the 20 century, and ends with modern visual projects emerged in the ballet productions of the end of the 20 century. The latter were connected with the sophisticated projects of visual artists, such as Rimtautas Gibavičius and Vytautas Kalinauskas, who came into accidental contacts with the conservative ballet tradition.
