SPIRO FLOQI ON ALBANIAN SYNTAX

Summary/Abstract: Spiro Floqi gave a semi-structuralist and semi-semantic impact to the Albanian syntax, especially with his publications of the 70s, however, not completely free of logicism and traditionalism, generally dominant in the grammatical studies at that time. Uis syntactic overviews were very progressive for the time he lived and published, having in mind the social environment which influenced the development of the Albanian science as a whole. Corpus variety, mainly literary one, rich and modern terminology for the time being, theoretical reliability of the articles influenced by the grammars of foreign languages through translations from French and Russian, creativitity in exploring the new concepts and their fast adoption into Albanian, as well as exploatiation of the linguistic problems without leaving space to ambiguity or doubtfulness are some of the main features typical for Floqi's articles. He inspired the new generations and oriented them towards the semantic concepts of the Albanian grammar. His structuralist articles remain unsuccessful and under the umbrella of logicism. However, his work remains one of the fundamental sources of the grammatical knowledge and scientific concretization in Albanology.
