STUDIME SINTAKSORE NË “STUDIME FILOLOGJIKE” PËRGJATË NJË GJYSMËSHEKULLI
SYNTACTIC STUDIES IN “PHILOLOGICAL STUDIES” DURING HALF A CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: This article provides a summary and a review of the studies on the science of syntax published in the joumal Philological Studies (hereafter, PS) from its first year of publication to year 2014. The first part of the article focuses on the foundations of the syntactic thought which served as strong pillars for the first syntactic studies in PS. The second half of the article details the studies in the PS during the last 50 years by grouping them into decades and broader themes within each decade. Every decade is discussed in terms of a) the number of the articles published and b) the development of the syntactic thought according to different sub-fields of syntax and its interfaces with other language modules. The discussion ends with a number of recommendations on the directions that the study of syntax should currently follow given that it is an integral part of the development of linguistics, in the context of Abanological studies and in the context of modern international linguistics work.
